THE TRANSLATOR
I bring deep translation theory out of the abstract and into practice. It’s a rigorous foundation that allows me to adapt confidently to the unique demands of your voice, genre, and style.
WHY I TRANSLATE
I'm a big believer in collectivity and emergence, and I believe that translation has an important part to play in spreading powerful messages and creativity. I believe that communication is extremely important when it comes to taking down oppressive systems — abuse thrives on silence, whereas sharing stories increases empathy and empowers people to stand together and speak out. I think creative works such as literature and film can be very healing, and I'd like to help share some of that with more people.
I believe that creative expression is an important aspect of humanity, and I worry that the shift towards AI is taking the humanity out of things. I love good-quality writing, and I love that translation means examining a beautifully crafted text so closely that you can reconstruct it in all new words. I love how as a translator you never stop learning. I love how each voice is unique, and as a translator you have to tune in to that in a new way each time.
